Litchfield National Park & Nature-based Full-day Tour

Start & end in Darwin 1 days Up to 21

About this trip

A full day out from the Top End into Litchfield National Park, taking in its waterfalls, plunge pools and sandstone country. It's a guided day trip with a good mix of walking, sightseeing and swimming stops.

You'll spend the day moving between a handful of the park's best-known spots, with time built in to cool off in the pools along the way. The pace is easy and the focus is on nature rather than long hikes.

Between November and April the exact route can change depending on rainfall and road conditions, so which waterholes you visit on the day isn't fixed.

What you'll do

  • Walk to Florence Falls and its plunge pools in the monsoon forest
  • Swim in the shallow pools at Buley Rockhole or Wangi Falls
  • See the wetlands and bird life of Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve
  • Visit the centuries-old Magnetic Termite Mounds
  • Optional add-on: Jumping Crocodile Cruise on the Adelaide River
Good to know
  • Between November and April the itinerary is adjusted for rainfall and road conditions, and swimming spots can close without notice
  • The Jumping Crocodile Cruise is an optional extra, not included in the base tour
  • Easy-paced day suited to families and those who want a mix of walking and swimming rather than serious hiking
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're based in Darwin and want flexible, knowledge-heavy nature touring. Think twice if you need guaranteed itinerary certainty or structured meal breaks.

  • Guide rearranged entire day when road blocked; local knowledge meant seeing things you'd otherwise miss.
  • Crocodile cruise, waterfalls, and swimming holes packed into one day with genuinely informative commentary.
  • Limited lunch provisions on tour; return-trip pub stop felt impromptu rather than planned meal break.
  • Pickup arrangement flexible from Darwin city, but tour logistics subject to road conditions and weather.
