About this trip
This is a straightforward introduction to Sapa on foot, with two nights split between a hill tribe village and the town itself. You get one night at a basic homestay or bungalow among local villages and one night at a hotel in Sapa, with a local guide leading the way between the two.
The pace leaves room to breathe. Free time between walks lets you wander Sapa at your own speed rather than being marched from stop to stop, and the trekking itself is a chance to see the terraced hills and hill tribe villages up close rather than through a bus window.
What you'll do
- Trek through terraced hillsides around Sapa with a local guide
- Overnight at a basic homestay or bungalow in a hill tribe village
- Second night at a hotel in Sapa town
- Free time built in to explore Sapa independently
- Moderate hiking pace, suited to those with reasonable fitness rather than serious trekkers
- Homestay conditions are basic — expect simple facilities
- The order of bungalow and hotel nights can swap depending on group size and availability
Worth it if you want authentic village trekking with genuinely knowledgeable local guides. Think twice if you need luxury comfort—bungalows are cosy but basic.
- Local guides (Pang, Nhu, Lan) are the standout—knowledgeable, warm, proud of their region, excellent English.
- Rice terrace trekking through ethnic minority villages (Lao Chai, Ta Van, Giang Ta Chai) genuinely feels authentic, not touristy.
- Homestays and bungalows are cosy with excellent local-cooked meals and welcoming hosts; mountain views from rooms a genuine highlight.
- Second-day hike is longer and more challenging than day one; bring proper fitness expectations and sturdy boots.
