About this trip
This trip runs through Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, from the city streets of Almaty out into the mountains and valleys of the Tian Shan. It moves at an easy pace, with a mix of guided days and time to explore on your own.
Expect a lot of landscape: the red rock of Charyn Canyon, the still blue of Kolsay and Kaindy Lakes, and snow-capped peaks along the way. In Karakol you get a dose of local history and heritage, and in Bokonbaevo you see the old tradition of eagle hunting up close.
Accommodation switches between guesthouses and yurts, and meals are home-cooked rather than restaurant fare. It is built with families and easy-going travellers in mind, so there is room to settle into each place rather than rushing through.
