About this trip
This 16-day journey runs the length of New Zealand, from Queenstown up to Auckland, taking in the country's best-known landscapes along the way. You'll cruise fjords, walk beneath glaciers, cross mountain passes and spend time with wildlife and Māori culture as you go.
The route moves from the South Island's dramatic scenery — Milford Sound, Franz Josef Glacier, Arthur's Pass — through Christchurch and on to Kaikōura for seals, before heading north to the volcanic centre of the North Island and finishing in Auckland.
It's a group trip with an easy pace and partially guided format, so there's room to explore some stops at your own speed while the essentials are taken care of.
What you'll do
- Cruise the fjord at Milford Sound
- Get close to Franz Josef Glacier
- Cross the Southern Alps via Arthur's Pass
- Spot seals along the Kaikōura coast
- Feel the force of Huka Falls
- Meet kiwis and learn about Māori culture in Rotorua
- Rated easy, so this suits people who want scenery and experiences without a demanding physical pace
- Partially guided — some free time built in alongside guided activities
Worth it if you get a strong tour manager and driver – they make or break it. Think twice if organisation and daily communication matter to you.
- Tour manager quality wildly inconsistent: one gave no daily schedules, booked wrong activities, blamed guests; others were exceptional.
- Best managers (Susie, Josh, Isobel) were genuinely knowledgeable, well-organised, included everyone, and honest about which optional activities were worth paying for.
- Group chemistry and friendships formed are a real highlight; travellers explicitly mention making lifetime friends on the tour.
- Accommodation simple but decent; included breakfasts solid. Activities across NZ are genuinely epic, whether included or optional.
