About this trip
This is a private, fully guided loop through Morocco, starting and finishing in Casablanca, that takes you from the blue streets of Chefchaouen down to the Sahara dunes and back up to the Atlantic coast. Over 13 days you move through imperial cities, mountain passes, oasis towns and desert camps, with a private guide and vehicle throughout.
It is a lot of ground to cover — Rabat, Meknes, Fes, the Mid-Atlas, the Ziz Valley, Merzouga, the Todra and Dades Gorges, Ouarzazate, Marrakech and Essaouira all feature — but being private means the pace can flex around you rather than a fixed group timetable.
Expect a mix of history (Roman ruins, medieval medinas, kasbahs), landscape (cedar forests, gorges, dunes) and one night out in the desert, bookended by Morocco's big cities.
What you'll do
- Ride a camel into the Sahara dunes and spend a night camping in Merzouga
- Wander the blue-washed lanes of Chefchaouen
- Explore the Roman ruins at Volubilis and the medina of Fes
- Drive through the Todra and Dades Gorges and the High Atlas Mountains
- Visit Kasbah Ait Benhaddou and the former film-set town of Ouarzazate
- Finish on the coast in Essaouira, with its Portuguese-era harbour
- Private tour, so the itinerary and pace can be adjusted to suit your group
- Long driving days are part of it — this is a wide loop covering north, centre, desert and coast
- Rated easy, and suitable for families
Worth it if you want a well-organised private tour with exceptional guides and authentic riads. Think twice if you dislike long driving days—some stretches between stops feel stretched.
- Drivers and local guides are genuinely excellent—knowledgeable, safe, patient, and treat you like friends.
- Riad stays are proper family homestays, beautiful and welcoming; Chefchaouen, Dades Gorge, and Sahara camps are standout stops.
- Several driving days are long; travellers wish for extra nights in key places rather than constant movement.
- Itinerary flexes well for mixed-age groups; some activities (trekking, camel riding) optional, others tailored.
