About this trip
Four days on the road between Rome and a string of Tuscan hill towns, with a coach doing the driving so you can take in the countryside as it changes from Roman suburbs to vineyards.
You move through medieval centres rather than staying in one place: Siena's old streets, the towers and wine cellars of San Gimignano, Etruscan Volterra, and the walled city of Lucca all feature, alongside a stop in the Chianti Valley for wine tasting.
The final day heads into the Val d'Orcia, taking in Pienza, Montepulciano, and Montalcino, known for its red wine, before the tour loops back to Rome.
What you'll do
- Explore Tivoli on the way out of Rome
- See the Cathedral at Orvieto
- Wander Siena's medieval centre
- Visit San Gimignano's wine cellars and old palaces
- Taste wine in the Chianti Valley
- Walk the walls of Lucca
- A lot of ground covered in four days, expect a different town most days
- Mostly coach travel between stops, good if you'd rather not drive
- Includes wine tasting stops, so of less interest if that's not your thing
