About this trip
Eight days across Malta and Gozo, mixing ancient temples with fortified towns and a fair bit of coastline. You'll get a guide throughout, so the history lands properly rather than being guesswork from a plaque.
Gozo comes first — quieter, greener, with stops for a swim in secluded bays as you cross the island. Malta follows, with time in Valletta's fortifications and churches and a look round the Grand Harbour's fishing boats.
Food and wine are worked in too, with chances to try Maltese dishes and local wines along the way.
What you'll do
- Swim in secluded bays while touring Gozo's coastline
- Explore Victoria, Gozo's capital
- Walk Valletta's fortifications and Grand Harbour
- Visit the UNESCO-listed temples of Ggantija, Hagar Qim and Mnajdra
- Taste Maltese dishes and local wines
- Fully guided throughout, good if you want context rather than self-directed sightseeing
- Covers two islands, so expect a ferry crossing and a shift in pace between Gozo and Malta
Worth it if you're a history buff who values expert guides and group camaraderie. Think twice if you need modern hotel comfort—Malta accommodation was cramped, poorly maintained, and lacking basic amenities like kettles and fridges.
- Guides (Althea, Chantal, Chantelle, Lisa) consistently exceptional: deep historical knowledge, passionate, genuinely caring about travellers' experience.
- Prehistoric temples older than pyramids and St Johns Co-Cathedral's Caravaggio painting genuinely outstanding. Bonus: Maltese falcons spotted over Blue Grotto cliffs.
- Malta hotel rooms tiny, poorly maintained (broken toilet, exposed insulation, faulty hairdryer), no kettle or fridge. Five-day stay felt institutional.
- Some historical sites closed at season start. Group skewed over 60; younger travellers may find pace or social dynamic less suited.
