Essential Central Mexico

Puerto Vallarta → Mexico City 9 days Up to 16

About this trip

Nine days across central Mexico, from the Pacific coast to the capital, taking in cities and towns with their own distinct character rather than rushing straight to Mexico City.

You start in Puerto Vallarta before heading inland to Guadalajara, a cultural hub known for music, festivals, and the tequila distilleries nearby. From there it's on to the smaller towns of Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende, where colonial history and architecture take centre stage.

The trip ends in Mexico City, giving you a proper mix of coast, colonial towns, and capital-city energy in just over a week.

What you'll do

  • Explore Guadalajara's music and festival scene
  • Visit distilleries near Guadalajara
  • Wander the historic streets of Guanajuato
  • Take in the architecture of San Miguel de Allende
  • Finish in Mexico City
Good to know
  • Fully guided throughout, rated easy going
  • Covers a good stretch of central Mexico, so you'll change base several times
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want curated Mexico with good guides and group camaraderie. Think twice if accommodation quality is a priority or you need reliable pre-tour admin.

  • Strong guides make the trip: Liam and Bea impressed with knowledge, humour, and genuine care for group dynamics.
  • Hits the highlights well: beaches, ruins, tequila, street food, markets, cathedrals and traditional culture all covered.
  • Accommodation is inconsistent. Puerto Vallarta and especially Guadalajara reported as poor; quality varies significantly.
  • TourRadar's pre-tour admin is weak. Form processing errors fall on you; expect zero handholding and little empathy if problems arise.
