About this trip
A full month moving overland through Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina, taking in the big cultural landmarks of the continent as well as the quieter, local moments in between.
You'll stand at Machu Picchu, meet communities living around Lake Titicaca, and cross Bolivia's white desert, before the pace shifts south into the outdoor activity of Pucón and the ranch life of Bariloche.
It's a genuine cross-continent route rather than a single-country deep dive, giving you a broad sense of how these four countries differ from each other.
What you'll do
- Visit the ancient site of Machu Picchu
- Meet local communities at Lake Titicaca
- Drive across Bolivia's white desert
- Get active around Pucón, Chile
- Spend time at a working gaucho ranch in Bariloche
- Travel overland through four South American countries
- A month-long trip covering a lot of ground, so expect regular travel days between stops
- Moderate pace with a mix of culture, history and outdoor activity
- Private room throughout, so no dorm-style group accommodation
Worth it if you value cultural depth and iconic sights with a strong guide. Think twice if you're budget-conscious or sensitive to cold accommodation and rushed pacing in the southern leg.
- Peru section delivers exceptional cultural learning, salt flats, and rural villages you cannot access independently.
- Santiago to Buenos Aires feels rushed with poor transport coordination; little time to enjoy areas properly.
- Winter hotels lack heating and hot water; meals often poor quality. Verify ticket pricing before paying—significant overcharging reported.
- Guide quality varies significantly; enthusiastic guides elevate the trip, weaker ones diminish it considerably.
