About this trip
Eleven days across two Central Asian countries, tracing the Silk Road from Uzbekistan's cities into Turkmenistan's deserts and back again. You get medieval architecture, desert camps, and some of the strangest and grandest sights in the region side by side.
Start in Tashkent, then fly to Khiva before crossing the border into Turkmenistan for Kunya Urgench, the Darvaza Gas Crater, and the marble capital of Ashgabat. Re-entering Uzbekistan, the route takes in Bukhara, Gijduvan's pottery workshops, and finishes in Samarkand.
This is a private, fully guided tour with your own vehicle and driver throughout, so the border crossing and long desert stretches are handled for you rather than left to public transport.
What you'll do
- Wander Khiva's walled old town of turquoise minarets and historic palaces
- Sleep in a desert camp beside the Darvaza Gas Crater with a barbecue dinner under the stars

- Join a folklore dinner in a historic madrasah in Bukhara
- See Registan Square, Gur-e Amir, and Shakhi-Zinda in Samarkand
- Covers two countries and a border crossing, so pack patience for immigration formalities
- Private and personalized, with your own guide and vehicle rather than a fixed group
- One night is spent in a desert tent camp near the gas crater — a rougher stay than the city hotels
