About this trip
Nine days across Morocco, from the Atlantic coast to the Sahara and over the Atlas mountains to Marrakech, in a small group capped at 7 people. It's a proper loop through the country's imperial cities, mountain villages and desert dunes, with enough of a group size to keep things personal rather than herded.
You start in Casablanca and head north to Rabat and the blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen, then swing through Roman ruins and Meknes on the way to Fes, where a guided walk takes you through the old medina. From there it's over the Middle Atlas, through cedar forests around Ifrane, and south to the dunes at Merzouga for a night in the Sahara.
The route back to Marrakech runs through Todra Gorge and the kasbahs of Ouarzazate before crossing the High Atlas. You finish with a guided tour of Marrakech's palaces and souks, plus free time to wander on your own.
What you'll do
- Wander the blue streets of Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains
- Visit the Roman ruins at Volubilis and the imperial city of Meknes
- Explore the UNESCO-listed medina of Fes with a local guide
- Cross the Middle Atlas cedar forests via Ifrane to the Sahara at Merzouga
- Walk through Todra Gorge and see the kasbahs of Ouarzazate
- Guided tour of Marrakech's palaces and souks, with free time after
- Small group, maximum 7 travellers
- Fast-paced overall — you change base most nights, with long drives between regions
- Includes a night in the Sahara desert near Merzouga
Worth it if you're prepared for long drives and flexible on pace. Think twice if you want deep exploration of each place or minimal shop stops.
- Driver Wail consistently praised as exceptionally kind, attentive, and knowledgeable throughout the tour.
- Most days involve 4-5 hours driving with single nights in places like Chefchaouen and Sahara; rushed mornings leave little time to explore properly.
- Only two days have actual local guides; rest is driver-led with forced stops at ceramic, medicine, and clothing shops regardless of interest.
- Wazo hotel in Marrakech is remote from medina; other riads, particularly Fes, have excellent character and location.
