About this trip
This 12-day trip moves through Morocco at a fair clip, taking in coastal cities, mountain passes, desert dunes and Amazigh villages along the way. You'll start in Casablanca and finish having covered a real cross-section of the country.
Expect a mix of guided city exploring and slower, more personal moments — a homestay with a local family, mint tea stops, a night camped under the stars in the Sahara. The pace is steady rather than relaxed, with plenty of ground to cover between the highlights.
It's built as an introduction to Morocco's essentials, so if you come away wanting more, there's scope to extend into a longer itinerary covering the country in more depth.
What you'll do
- Explore the medina in Fes, one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world
- Stay with a local family on a homestay in Moulay Idriss
- Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass
- Ride camels into the Sahara and camp overnight under the stars
- Wander the markets of Marrakech
- Walk the blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen
- Long travel days are part of the trip given how much ground it covers — bring something to keep you occupied in the vehicle
- The Todra Gorge walk is on remote, uneven terrain, so you'll want a reasonable level of fitness and proper footwear
- Travelling during Ramadan is possible and can be worthwhile, but some restaurants and cafes may be closed during the day and your leader may need to adjust the plan
Worth it if you want to see Morocco's highlights efficiently with a strong guide. Think twice if you're prone to stomach issues or need a relaxed pace.
- Guide quality makes or breaks it; Mustapha, Omar, Mariam, and Sara earned specific praise for knowledge, availability, and going beyond the brief.
- Heavy travel days and heat (38°C in Marrakech) triggered gastrointestinal illness in several travellers; October recommended over summer.
- One reviewer felt guide was disengaged and accommodation dirty; cleanliness and staff attitude vary, possibly by hotel or tour instance.
- Itinerary packs 12 destinations into 12 days; excellent value and authentic access, but genuinely tiring if you prefer slower travel.
