About this trip
This 16-day overland trip takes you through South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe in a purpose-built truck, tracking wildlife and unpacking some of the region's conservation stories along the way. You'll cover a lot of ground, camping most nights and travelling as a group with a shared driver and guide throughout.
Expect a mix of proper safari time, cultural stops and a few days of hands-in-the-dirt camping in the Okavango Delta. There's also free time built in at Victoria Falls to explore at your own pace.
It's as much about the overland journey as the wildlife sightings — long driving days, changeable road conditions and a fair bit of camaraderie with your group come with the territory.
What you'll do
- Join a bush walk in Greater Kruger National Park and learn how the Black Mambas anti-poaching unit works
- Visit the Khama Rhino Sanctuary
- Watch elephants, zebras and cheetahs from a sunset river cruise
- Cycle through Soweto with a local guide
- Camp out in Botswana's Okavango Delta wilderness
- Explore Victoria Falls in your own free time
- Overland travel in a truck without air conditioning — long driving days are part of the experience
- Camping in the Okavango Delta means a bush toilet and no shower
- Expect early starts, either for better safari conditions or to beat traffic on long travel days
Worth it if you're up for long driving days and value excellent guides and wildlife. Think twice if you need reliable hot water and comfort at every camp.
- Guides consistently praised as experienced, brilliant and genuinely managing groups well across multiple reviewers.
- Some camps had no hot water or showers; farm stay stop made guests uncomfortable and should be reconsidered.
- Long driving days are substantial; one reviewer noted excessive time in vehicles, another that meals on travel days were lacking.
- Okavango Delta and Soweto are genuine highlights; Botswana section consistently cited as exceptional by multiple travellers.
