About this trip
Fifteen days across Egypt taking in the big pharaonic sights and the everyday rhythm of the Nile. You'll move between Cairo, Luxor, Alexandria and Hurghada, with a felucca cruise along the river as the centrepiece.
This is Egypt at ground level — ancient tombs, working temples and a slower stretch on deck watching rural life go by, rather than a checklist rushed through a coach window.
Travelling with a local leader and a small group, you get context on the history alongside the logistics, and a bit of Nubian hospitality along the way.
What you'll do
- Stand before the pyramids of Giza
- Cruise the Nile aboard a traditional felucca
- Explore the tombs and temples around Luxor
- Wander Alexandria's ancient and coastal streets
- Unwind by the Red Sea in Hurghada
- The felucca cruise means a shared sleeping area and shared bathroom on board for the night
- Ruins and walkways can be uneven, dusty and rocky — bring proper walking shoes
- Temperatures swing from very hot to very cold depending on the region, so pack layers
Worth it if you're under 55, enjoy group travel, and don't mind basic comfort. Think twice if you're older, need luxury accommodation, or prefer solo exploration.
- Guide Mohammad was exceptional: knowledgeable, personable, gave restaurant tips, negotiation advice, logistics help.
- Travel days well-balanced (longest 5 hours driving), overnight train Cairo-Aswan included, plenty of ground time.
- TourRadar listed trip as 15-99 when Intrepid rates it 3/5 (physically demanding); older travellers found it tough.
- Winter months are colder than expected; pack jacket, thermals, sleeping bag for felucca nights.
