About this trip
Eight days across central and southern Italy, moving from Rome down to the Amalfi Coast, with a good mix of ancient history and easy coastal time.
You'll cover Rome's big historic sites, hike Mt Vesuvius and walk through Pompeii, then shift pace in Sorrento and along the Amalfi Coast with some sun, food and a bit of walking.
Guided throughout by a local leader, with food experiences like gelato making and pizza tasting mixed in alongside the sightseeing.
What you'll do
- Explore Rome's historic centre
- Hike Mt Vesuvius on the Bay of Naples
- Guided tour of the Pompeii ruins
- Taste limoncello in Sorrento
- Walk sections of the Amalfi Coast
- Try your hand at a gelato making workshop
- Travel is mostly by train, so pack light and be able to lift your own luggage onto racks and up stairs
- Summer months (July–Aug–early Sept) bring high heat and busy crowds along the coast
- Hotel rooms may have twin beds instead of a double and sometimes shared bathrooms
Worth it if you're fit, flexible with accommodation standards, and value exceptional guides. Think twice if you need detailed historical commentary, prefer card payments, or want leisurely pacing.
- Guide quality is genuinely exceptional—multiple reviewers praised Lisa, Agustin, Veronica, and Mateo for enthusiasm, problem-solving, and making the group feel cared for.
- Path of the Gods hike to Positano involves steep stairs; reviewers noted it demands real fitness even for those in good shape.
- Accommodation in Rome and Minori fell below expectations; breakfasts basic with limited savoury options. Sorrento and Amalfi hotels better.
- Bring cash—many common activities require euros, not cards. Few advance details on daily schedules or free-time options for planning.
