About this trip
Nine days moving from Bangkok down to Phuket, with stops in Ao Nang and Khao Lak, built around beach time, good food and a fair bit of freedom to choose your own pace.
You'll have a Thai leader with you throughout, but this isn't a trip where every hour is planned. Meals are mostly your own to sort out, which pushes you into local markets and street stalls rather than set restaurants, and there's plenty of optional activity time to fill as you like.
Expect long stretches on some genuinely good coastline, a couple of active days on the water, and the kind of trip that rewards travellers happy to make their own decisions.
What you'll do
- Explore Bangkok's streets and local markets
- Sea kayak along the Krabi coastline near Ao Nang
- Snorkel in the waters off Khao Lak
- Relax on the beaches of Phuket
- Share meals with locals in place of set group dinners
- Only a few meals are included, so you'll be sourcing most food yourself
- Lots of unstructured time for optional activities suits travellers who like independence
- Pace is relaxed overall, with beach time built in rather than a packed itinerary
Worth it if you're after genuine Thai culture and don't mind long travel days. Think twice if you want pristine beaches and downtime to relax.
- Local Thai guide elevates the trip with real cultural insights and knowledge that transform standard sightseeing into genuine experiences.
- Overloaded local boats with safety concerns reported; accommodation quality disappoints given the price point of the tour.
- Heavy travel schedule with long days leaves minimal downtime; beaches visited tend toward busy, touristy spots rather than quieter alternatives.
- Solo travellers and first-time Thailand visitors get good broad coverage; homestays offer authentic immersion if that appeals to you.
