About this trip
Ten days circling Iceland's Ring Road, taking in the big-name sights alongside quieter corners most tours skip. You travel from Reykjavík round to Akureyri and back via the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, covering a genuine cross-section of the country's landscapes.
The route runs through the Golden Circle, down the South Coast, along the East Fjords and across the North before finishing in the west. It's a self-driving or partially guided setup, so you get structure without being tied to a coach all day.
Along the way there's room to add on extras like horseback riding or ice and lava caving if you want to build out the days further.
What you'll do
- Golden Circle stops at Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir and Thingvellir National Park
- Black Sand Beach at Reynisfjara and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon on the South Coast
- Drive through the East Fjords
- Dimmuborgir lava pillars at Lake Mývatn in the North
- Kirkjufell mountain and the wider Snæfellsnes Peninsula
- Roundtrip airport transfer included
- Partially guided, with optional add-on activities you book and pay for separately along the route
- Private room accommodation throughout
- Easy pace, suited to families and groups rather than a fast-moving adventure trip
Worth it if you value comprehensive coverage, standout local guides, and diverse activities. Think twice if you're fussy about accommodation quality—breakfasts vary significantly.
- Guide quality makes or breaks it—Johann, Thor, Stefan Jon consistently praised for deep knowledge and genuine care.
- Itinerary genuinely covers the lot: glaciers, ice caves, whale watching, geysers, waterfalls, puffins, black sand beaches.
- Hotel breakfast quality wildly inconsistent—Hotel Lotus excellent, Hotel Cabin notably poor with only oatmeal as hot option.
- 10-day trip felt more complete than 8-day option; extra days genuinely worthwhile for pacing and coverage.
