About this trip
Thirteen days moving the length of Vietnam, from the old quarter of Hanoi in the north down to Ho Chi Minh City in the south, taking in both the landscapes and the culture along the way.
You'll head up to Sapa for time with local ethnic minority communities before sailing out onto the limestone waters of Halong Bay. Further south, Hoi An's lantern-lit old town breaks up the journey before the pace picks up again in Ho Chi Minh City.
The trip ends with a look at rural Vietnam in the Mekong Delta and a more sobering visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels, rounding out a route that mixes cities, coast and countryside.
What you'll do
- Explore Hanoi's old quarter
- Meet ethnic minority communities around Sapa
- Sail the limestone waters of Halong Bay
- Wander the lantern-lit streets of Hoi An
- Explore the Mekong Delta by boat
- Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels near Ho Chi Minh City
- Covers a lot of ground north to south, so expect regular travel days
- Partially guided, with a mix of group activities and free time
- Suits travellers who want both nature (Sapa, Halong Bay, Mekong) and city time (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City)
Worth it if you want a comprehensive Vietnam overview with excellent hotels and guides. Think twice if you dislike early starts, long bus days, or Hanoi's chaotic traffic.
- Guides, especially Thang, go beyond the brief—personal motorbike tours, flight check-ins arranged, flexible plan changes handled smoothly.
- Hotels genuinely exceed expectations; most are high-quality with pools. Food impresses; Halong Bay overnight and Mekong Delta activities genuinely memorable.
- Early mornings and packed itineraries are relentless; Ho Chi Minh traffic creates long bus delays, especially frustrating for solo travellers unfamiliar with cities.
- Itinerary is comprehensive but tight; last-minute plan swaps possible but may require additional hotel changes mid-trip.
