About this trip
Six days split between Istanbul and Cappadocia, covering a city that's spanned two continents and three empires, and a landscape shaped by volcanic rock and centuries of underground life.
You'll have a guide walking you through the history of early Christians and the region's layered past, alongside hands-on moments like pottery-making with local craftspeople and plenty of Turkish food along the way.
Domestic flights and transfers are arranged for you, with small-group guided tours in each region, so the logistics are handled while you focus on the sights.
What you'll do
- Explore Istanbul, a city that's been capital to three different empires
- Descend into Cappadocia's ancient underground cities
- Photograph the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia
- Try your hand at pottery-making with local experts
- Learn about early Christian history from a local guide
- Sample Turkish cuisine throughout the trip
- Some historical sites close on national or religious holidays, so confirm availability for your dates in advance
- Grand Bazaar is closed Sundays, Topkapı Palace closed Tuesdays, and the Blue Mosque closed Fridays for prayer (viewed from the garden instead)
- Hot air balloon flights are not included in the package price and are booked separately with the balloon provider
Worth it if you want hassle-free logistics and strong guides. Think twice if you dislike being steered into shops or can't handle an upright night bus.
- Cave hotel in Cappadocia genuinely relaxing; Istanbul's Old Town location puts you near everything that matters.
- Daily shepherding into jewellery, pottery and carpet shops with documented scam histories feels dodgy.
- Night bus between cities keeps you upright the entire journey; no proper sleeping, just sitting uncomfortably.
- Balloon flight pricey but genuinely worth it; airport taxi pickup confusing without proper system explanation beforehand.
