About this trip
Fourteen days travelling by coach from Atlanta to New Orleans, tracing the history, food and music of the American South. This is a sightseeing-heavy trip built around guided walks and cultural stops rather than beaches or downtime.
You'll take in the historic streets of Charleston and Savannah, tour Biltmore House in Asheville, and hear the stories behind Bonaventure Cemetery from a local guide. Food and music get equal billing, from a Cajun cooking session to recording a track in Nashville.
It ends in New Orleans with a jazz brunch, rounding off a route that mixes grand houses, cemeteries, kitchens and recording studios into one journey south.
What you'll do
- Walking tours of Charleston and Savannah's historic districts
- Tour Biltmore House and Garden in Asheville
- Guided visit to Bonaventure Cemetery
- Cook a Cajun feast
- Record a track at the Country Music Hall of Fame
- Jazz brunch in New Orleans to finish
- Lots of walking on included city tours, so bring sturdy shoes
- You travel together in a private group vehicle, and space can feel tight at times
- Summer travel is hot and humid; September to November brings rain, so pack accordingly
Worth it if you value a strong guide and willing to supplement city tours yourself. Think twice if you expect comprehensive guided exploration in each city.
- Guide Travis Hanks consistently praised; his expertise makes the trip genuinely excellent.
- City tours are sparse and inadequate; you'll need to arrange and pay for your own exploration.
- Some scheduled stops waste time; could be better used visiting places travellers actually wanted to see.
- Itinerary has padding; expect to optimise your own free time in major stops.
