About this trip
Fifteen days across Colombia, from the mountain towns of the coffee region to the Caribbean coast, ending in Cartagena. It's a mix of highland scenery, colonial cities and beach time, with plenty of chances to meet locals along the way.
You'll spend time in Bogota before heading into the coffee region's valleys and hill towns, then make your way north to the coast for palm-lined beaches and warmer, more humid air.
The journey ends in Cartagena, a UNESCO-listed walled city with fortresses, a plaza made for people-watching, and local food worth lingering over.

- Explore Bogota's neighbourhoods and history
- Walk through the coffee region's valleys and historic towns
- Hike the Cocora Valley among its tall wax palms
- Relax on Caribbean beaches near Tayrona
- Wander Cartagena's walled old town and fortresses
- Sample local dishes and meet Colombian hosts along the route
- The Cocora Valley hike is fairly demanding — you'll want to be reasonably fit with sturdy shoes, though you can opt out and enjoy the scenery instead
- Tayrona National Park closes for about 15 days a few times a year (February, June, October/November) so indigenous land can rest — if this falls during your trip, alternate visits to sites like Tayronaka or Katanzama are arranged instead
- Expect a hot, humid climate on the coast, so pack accordingly
