About this trip
This trip takes you through Indonesia's lesser-visited islands, starting in Lombok and ending among the Komodo dragons, with a mix of jungle treks, local villages and a multi-day boat journey.
You begin on Lombok, trekking to waterfalls and through traditional villages before heading east to Sumbawa and Moyo Island. From there you board a private liveaboard for a 3-day, 2-night sail through the Komodo archipelago, stopping at beaches, viewpoints and snorkelling spots along the way.
The trip ends in Komodo National Park, where you go looking for the dragons themselves on their home ground. It's a good fit if you want to see a side of Indonesia beyond the usual Bali circuit.
What you'll do
- Trek through jungle to reach waterfalls in Lombok
- Visit traditional local villages away from the tourist trail
- Sail through Sumbawa and Moyo Islands en route to Komodo
- Spend 3 days and 2 nights aboard a private liveaboard boat
- Snorkel and stop at beaches and viewpoints along the sailing route
- Track Komodo dragons in their natural habitat
- Involves jungle trekking, so bring proper footwear and expect some physical effort
- You spend multiple nights aboard a liveaboard boat as part of the itinerary
- Covers several islands over 9 days, so you're moving on regularly rather than settling in one spot
Worth it if you want genuine wildlife encounters and don't mind basic accommodation. Think twice if sea sickness is a concern or you want more island time than boat time.
- Guides Monk and Oner consistently praised for attentiveness, humour, and genuine care throughout the tour.
- Manta rays, Komodo dragons, Padar Island sunrise and the three-day boat trip deliver unforgettable wildlife moments.
- First night boat trip extremely rocky; significant time spent travelling between islands rather than on them.
- Accommodation described as very basic throughout with no standout hotel to break up the trip.
