About this trip
Eleven days moving through Guatemala's highlands, jungle and lakes, taking in Mayan ruins, colonial streets and indigenous market life along the way.
You'll explore the ancient city of Tikal, sail across Lake Atitlán with its ring of volcanoes, and wander the cobbled streets of Antigua Guatemala, a UNESCO-listed colonial town of old churches and convent ruins.
This is a partially guided trip with an easy pace, built around Guatemala's landscapes and living Mayan culture rather than a packed itinerary.
What you'll do
- Explore the Mayan ruins at Tikal
- Sail Lake Atitlán, ringed by volcanoes
- Wander Antigua Guatemala's cobblestone streets and colonial ruins
- Browse colourful indigenous markets
- Take in volcano views across the highlands
- Fixed departures on Sundays or Thursdays only
- Group size can change along the way as travellers join or leave at different points
- Solo travellers may face an extra supplement beyond the single room charge, worth confirming when booking
Worth it if you want genuine local insight and don't mind long daily drives. Think twice if you need most meals included or prefer faster-paced itineraries.
- Guides Esmerelda and Oscar genuinely knowledgeable, proactive—went out of their way to source obscure answers and arrange photo stops.
- Boat trip to Livingston and Semuc Champey were standout highlights; driving between sites revealed small local communities most tourists miss.
- Significant daily driving required to cover the country; most meals not included, so budget and plan accordingly throughout.
- Hotel quality varies but upgrades worth considering; included eSim unreliable, but wifi available at accommodations.
