About this trip
This is a proper overland crossing of southern and eastern Africa, 77 days on the road moving through some of the continent's best-known wild places. It's built for people who want the full spread — savannah, desert, jungle and a fair bit of adrenaline thrown in at the end.
You'll camp your way from the Masai Mara down through the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, trek to see gorillas in the Virunga mountains, and cross into southern Africa for Namibia's dunes, the Okavango Delta and Chobe. It closes out at Victoria Falls with white water rafting, bungee jumping and skydiving on offer for those who want them.
With a trip this long, expect long travel days between destinations balanced by proper time in each place — this isn't a quick highlights reel, it's the full route.
What you'll do
- Game drives across the Masai Mara
- Trek to see mountain gorillas in the Virunga mountains
- Relax on Zanzibar's beaches
- Cross the Serengeti and descend into Ngorongoro Crater
- Explore South Luangwa and Etosha, then pole through the Okavango Delta by mokoro
- Cruise the Chobe River and take on white water rafting, bungee jumping or a gorge swing at Victoria Falls
- This is a long overland trip — 77 days on the road, mostly camping
- Covers huge distances across multiple countries, so travel days are part of the deal
- The adventure activities at the end (rafting, bungee, skydiving) are optional extras, not compulsory
Worth it if you're prepared for gruelling drive days and want transformative African immersion with outstanding guides. Think twice if comfort and sleep matter more than adventure.
- Expect 12-19 hour driving days with minimal breaks, 4-5am starts, and limited washing facilities. It's genuinely tough.
- Guides Jo and Mo are genuinely exceptional—knowledgeable, funny, kind, and invested in every traveller's experience.
- Group cooking duties keep costs down, build camaraderie, and produce surprisingly excellent meals from bush kitchens.
- First truck seats could be more comfortable, but the truck itself becomes a bonding point and moving home.
