About this trip
This week takes you through four cities that between them cover most of what people come to northern India to see: Mughal architecture, Rajput forts, and the ritual life of the Ganges.
You start in Delhi, move on to Jaipur and Agra for the classic forts-and-palaces run, then finish in Varanasi, one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities, where the pace shifts from monuments to something more spiritual.
It's an easy-going, partially guided trip designed for private groups or families, so you get the sights without a rigid group schedule.
What you'll do
- Ride a rickshaw through the old lanes of Old Delhi
- Stand in front of the Taj Mahal at Agra
- Walk the Amber Fort and City Palace in Jaipur
- See the astronomical instruments at Jantar Mantar
- Watch the Ganga Aarti ceremony at dusk on the Ghats
- Take an early boat past the rituals along the Ganges in Varanasi
- Private and partially guided, so you have more flexibility than a fixed group tour
- Rated easy pace, suited to families
- Varanasi is a shift in tone from the previous cities — more ritual and religious life than sightseeing
