About this trip
Five days across Sri Lanka's cultural heartland and hill country, covering ancient sites, tea country, and a safari finish in Yala. It moves at a fair clip, so you'll cover a lot of ground in a short time.
You'll start among the ancient rock fortresses and cave temples of Dambulla and Sigiriya, then head to Kandy for its temples, lake, and an evening of traditional dance. From there it's up into the hills around Nuwara Eliya and Ella, before finishing with a wildlife-focused stop at Yala National Park.

- Train journeys frequently run hours late and may downgrade you to cramped 3rd class without warning; the Ella route is notoriously slow.
- Hotels vary wildly in quality; some are excellent, others disappointing. Spice Garden and Isini Gems stops are high-pressure sales traps.
