About this trip

Nine days across the north of Vietnam, moving from the capital's streets to mountain trekking country, out onto the water in Halong Bay, and finishing among the limestone karsts of Ninh Binh.

You start in Hanoi with a full day taking in the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, the Old Quarter, a local market and the food that goes with it. From there it's up to Sapa, a hill town surrounded by the terraced rice fields of the Muong Hoa Valley and home to Hmong, Tay and Dao communities.

Halong Bay brings an overnight cruise among the karst islands, with plenty of time on deck for the scenery, before the trip ends in Ninh Binh, a quieter corner of the north built around its own limestone landscape.
