Kakadu & Katherine Gorge & Arnhem Land Experience 4 Day Comfort Tour

Start & end in Darwin 4 days Up to 16

About this trip

Four days in Kakadu and Katherine, travelling at a relaxed pace with a guide and a small group, focused on Aboriginal culture and the Top End's wildlife and scenery.

You'll spend time on rivers and gorges looking for crocodiles, walk through rock art sites with thousands of years of history behind them, and hear stories and traditions directly from the people connected to this land.

Nights are spent in air-conditioned comfort in Kakadu and Katherine, so the days can be spent outdoors without worrying about the heat catching up with you.

What you'll do

  • Cruise the East Alligator River on the Guluyambi Cultural Cruise, watching for crocodiles along the Kakadu-Arnhem Land border
  • See ancient rock art at Ubirr Rock and Burrungkuy (Nourlangie), with sunset views at Ubirr
  • Learn at the Bowali and Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centres
  • Swim at Edith Falls (Leliyn), where a waterfall feeds a plunge pool
  • Take a NitNit Dreaming cruise through Katherine's Two Gorges, immersed in Jawoyn culture
  • Optional scenic helicopter flight over Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge
Good to know
  • Leisurely pace, suited to those who want to absorb culture and scenery rather than rush between sites
  • Private rooms throughout, with air-conditioned accommodation in Kakadu and Katherine
  • Some rock art visits depend on seasonal access conditions
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're reasonably fit, want serious cultural immersion, and value knowledgeable guides. Think twice if you need leisurely pace or mobility challenges on uneven terrain.

  • Guides consistently praised for deep Aboriginal cultural knowledge, warmth, and safe driving across demanding terrain.
  • Packs genuine variety: rock art, swimming holes, wildlife, sunrises, gorges and meaningful time with local Aboriginal people.
  • Four full days of long driving and hiking; some walks to waterfalls challenging for children and those with mobility limits.
  • Food basic but adequate, motel accommodation simple; practical rather than luxurious given remote locations.
