About this trip
Two days to properly take in the Grand Canyon, with stops along the way that give the journey some context rather than just delivering you straight to the rim.
You'll pass Hoover Dam, drive a stretch of Route 66 and call in at a historic railroad town before reaching the canyon itself, where you get time to walk the rim, drop into it on foot and sit with a coffee overlooking the drop.
An optional helicopter ride is available if you want to see the scale of it from above.
What you'll do
- Stop at Hoover Dam
- Drive a stretch of Route 66
- Visit a historic railroad town
- Walk sections of the Grand Canyon rim
- Hike down into the canyon
- Optional helicopter ride over the canyon
- Covers a lot of ground over two days, from the dam to Route 66 to the canyon itself
- Live commentary is in English, with a free app offering translated commentary in several other languages
Worth it if you want a proper Grand Canyon experience with a knowledgeable guide and aren't bothered by long drives. Think twice if you need a quick day trip—it's genuinely far and deserves the overnight.
- Guides consistently go above and beyond: setting up tents, arranging sunrise picnics, tailoring itineraries to hiking ability or non-hiking preferences.
- Overnight stays break up the journey and let you catch both sunset and sunrise at the rim, which reviewers found genuinely moving and worth the extra spend.
- It's far from Vegas. Long drive days even with stops at Hoover Dam and Route 66. Come prepared with water and snacks; distance can't be avoided.
- Optional helicopter flights and activities cost extra but reviewers considered them worthwhile for seeing more of the canyon in limited time.
