About this trip
This is a long overland route from Athens up through Greece and across the Balkans, covering seven countries in a fortnight with a dedicated tour leader and driver rather than a big coach group.
You move steadily from ancient sites in Greece into the Balkans proper, taking in mountain towns, lakeside views and cities still marked by more recent history. It's a lot of ground covered, so expect most days to involve travel between places rather than settling in.
Being semi-private with a set car and leader, it suits people who want the logistics handled but a more personal pace than a standard big-group bus tour.
What you'll do
- See the ancient ruins at Delphi
- Watch the sunset over the monasteries of Meteora
- Take in the views over Lake Ohrid
- Visit the Stari Most bridge in Mostar
- Wander the old streets of Berat
- Cross seven West Balkan countries in one route
- Semi-private format with a dedicated tour leader and car rather than a large group coach
- Covers a lot of countries in 14 days, so it's more about ticking off key sights than lingering
- Ends flexibly in either Sarajevo or Belgrade
Worth it if you want genuine Balkan depth with a knowledgeable guide in a small group. Think twice if you need consistent hotel standards or dislike frequent relocations.
- Guides like Alfie and Bilbil are genuinely exceptional—top-tier knowledge, patience, safe driving, fluent English.
- Small group size (7-8 people) means access to places larger tours can't reach and proper attention from your guide.
- Hotel quality and location inconsistent across the fortnight; you may be split from the group or get a substandard room.
- Pack a regional SIM or use hotel wifi; guides often stay elsewhere, so independent communication matters.
