About this trip
This is a big loop through the Balkans, covering ten countries in sixteen days by coach. You start in Greece with the ancient sites of Athens, Delphi, and Meteora, then head north through Croatia's coast and national parks before crossing into Central Europe.
From there the route threads through Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, taking in a genuine mix of Mediterranean, Central European, and Eastern European cultures along the way.
It's a wide-angle introduction to the region rather than a deep dive into any one place, with the coach doing much of the work between countries.
What you'll do
- Explore Greek history in Athens, Delphi, and Meteora
- Visit Dubrovnik, Split, and Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia
- Soak in Budapest's thermal baths
- Cross through Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Albania
- Pass through Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Fast-paced — ten countries in sixteen days means many stops are brief
- Coach travel links most destinations, so expect some long driving days
Worth it if you want genuine Balkan culture and don't mind long bus days and basic hotels. Think twice if you need comfort, short walking days, or reliable transport logistics.
- Local guides consistently excellent and knowledgeable; group bonding genuine across multiple reviews.
- Several extra-long bus days with minimal toilet facilities; one bus broke down causing hours delay.
- Hotels subpar quality: hard beds, few safes, no fitness centres. Group size 42 made logistics difficult.
- Optional paid activities like Danube cruise lacked transport; walking to pier from hotel was expected.
