About this trip
This tour takes you into Mexico's Copper Canyon, a vast canyon system in the north-west that's deeper and greener than the Grand Canyon, and home to the Tarahumara (Raramuri) people. An English-speaking guide travels with the group throughout, giving context on the land and the communities who live there.
The centrepiece is a ride on the Chepe Express, winding through canyon scenery that shifts from high sierra to river gorges. You'll also spend time on the Sonoran coast, with the trip starting and ending in San Carlos.
Most meals, lodging, tips, train tickets and transport to and from the canyon are included. Hotels are carefully chosen for the area, often from the Balderrama Collection, with a Spanish-influenced style and a strong sense of place.

- Ride the Chepe Express train through the Copper Canyon
- Meet and learn from Tarahumara (Raramuri) communities, known for basket weaving and long-distance running
- Take in canyon viewpoints across a system wider than the Grand Canyon
- Spend time on the Sonoran coast around San Carlos
- Stay in hotels chosen for their setting and ties to the local land and communities
- Remote area — phone and internet access is patchy and only available at some hotels
- No lifts at hotels, so you'll need to manage stairs and ramps with your luggage
- Walking includes rocky paths at altitudes up to 7800ft, so a reasonable level of fitness and mobility is needed
