About this trip
This is a private drive from Marrakech to Fes, taking the long way round through some of Morocco's most varied landscapes. You cross the High Atlas via the Tichka Pass, stopping at Berber villages and the kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, then continue through Ouarzazate's old film sets and the palm groves of the Skoura oases.
The route runs on through the Dades Valley and Todra Gorges to Merzouga, where you spend a night in the desert with a proper cultural focus, including visits to nomadic families rather than just a quick camel photo stop.
From there it's on to Fes via the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas, with cedar forests, wild Barbary apes, and the towns of Azrou and Ifrane along the way. It's a private, fully guided trip, so the pace is yours, but there's a lot of ground covered in three days.

Worth it if you value a driver-guide who genuinely shapes the experience. Think twice if you need detailed itinerary certainty or prefer structured group dynamics.
- Driver-guides like Abdul and Abdulatif are the backbone; their local knowledge, safety on mountain roads, and warmth transform the trip entirely.
- Desert camp nights and off-beaten-path stops—Aït Benhaddou, Dades Gorges, wild monkeys, Kasbah visits—feel genuinely intimate, not scripted.
- Long driving days link the sights; comfort depends heavily on the specific driver and vehicle condition, which varies.
- One reviewer skipped Atlas Studios due to time; itinerary flexibility means some planned stops may not happen as expected.
