From Marrakech 3-Day, 2-Night Desert Trip to Merzouga Dunes

Start & end in Marrakesh 3 days Up to 16

About this trip

This is a three-day overland run from Marrakech to the dunes of Merzouga, taking in a real cross-section of Morocco along the way. You'll climb over the Atlas Mountains, drop into palm oases and limestone canyons, and pass through mud-brick Berber villages and old kasbahs before reaching the Sahara.

The trip builds to your camel ride out to camp as the sun goes down over Erg Chebbi, the point where the changing colours of the dunes make the long drive feel worthwhile.

It's a fully guided group trip, so someone else handles the driving and logistics while you take in the scenery.

What you'll do

  • Cross the Atlas Mountains, passing snow-capped peaks
  • Visit fortified Berber villages and mud-brick kasbahs
  • Walk through palm oases and limestone canyons
  • Ride a camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset
  • Overnight at a desert camp near Merzouga
Good to know
  • Involves long driving days as you cover ground between Marrakech and the desert
  • One night is spent camping in the Sahara, so pack for cold desert nights
  • Suits travellers who want a taste of the desert without a longer expedition
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want a well-organised desert experience with genuinely excellent guides. Think twice if you prefer flexibility—the itinerary is fairly fixed with limited stops.

  • Guides (Youssef, Ussef, Hassan, Abdul, Larson) consistently praised for reliability, friendliness, local knowledge, and attentiveness throughout.
  • Good value at 100€ for three days; trip well-organised with smooth logistics and no aggressive upselling at tourist shops.
  • Limited scenic stops—meals take significant time instead of visits to Valley of Roses or Dadel forest some travellers wanted.
  • Food quality decent but meal timing appears rigid; worth clarifying stop preferences when booking if exploration matters to you.
