About this trip
Ten days through the natural highlights of Costa Rica, starting and finishing in San Jose. The route takes you from volcano country to cloud forest to the Pacific coast, giving you a proper cross-section of the landscapes the country is known for.
Arenal Volcano National Park and the cloud forest of Monteverde feature early on, followed by time in Manuel Antonio National Park, one of the country's best-regarded conservation areas. Expect plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife along the way, from birds and mammals to the smaller stuff most people miss.
It's a partially guided trip, so there's room to explore on your own as well as guided activity, with a mix of nature, hikes and some local interaction built in.

- Most hotels are remote from towns; budget extra for Ubers (£15-25 each way) or rely on hotel shuttles for dinner.
- Charm-category hotels are isolated; upgrade to higher tiers for walkable town locations if you value evening independence.
