About this trip
Twelve days through Costa Rica, starting and finishing in San Jose, built around the country's rainforests, volcanoes and canals rather than beach time.
You'll spend time on the Tortuguero canals, learn about coffee growing first-hand, and get into the history and processing of chocolate before hiking the slopes of Arenal Volcano.
A partially guided trip with a mix of nature, wildlife and some local culture, suited to those who want an active, varied look at Costa Rica rather than a single-base holiday.
What you'll do
- Cruise the Tortuguero canals
- Visit a coffee farm to see how the beans are grown and processed
- Learn the history of chocolate, from ancient use to modern production
- Hike the slopes of Arenal Volcano
- Spot local wildlife along the way
- Partially guided, so some sections you'll explore with more independence
- Runs over Christmas and New Year, which suits those happy to travel over the holidays
- Involves hiking, so a reasonable level of fitness helps
