Garden Route & Addo Group Adventure

Start & end in Cape Town 6 days Up to 12

About this trip

A six-day road trip from Cape Town through some of South Africa's best-known landscapes, covering the Western Cape, Little Karoo, Whale Route, Route 62 and Addo Elephant National Park.

Run by Earthstompers Adventures, who have been doing this route since 2005, it's built as a straightforward, affordable way to see a good spread of nature, coastline and wildlife without organising it all yourself.

Expect a mix of driving days and stops for wildlife and scenery, with the group travelling together throughout.

What you'll do

  • Drive the Garden Route and Route 62 through the Western Cape and Little Karoo
  • Look for elephants and other wildlife in Addo Elephant National Park
  • Follow the Whale Route along the southern coast
  • Take in the mix of nature and countryside between Cape Town and the Eastern Cape
Good to know
  • Starts and ends in Cape Town, with departures every Monday
  • The order of stops can vary from the standard itinerary
  • A road-trip style tour, so you'll spend a fair amount of time travelling between stops
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want excellent organisation, varied landscape and wildlife in 6 days with a strong guide. Think twice if you're short on time or uncomfortable with group dynamics.

  • Guide quality makes or breaks it—Gareth praised repeatedly for knowledge, humour, safety and genuine care.
  • Six days feels rushed for Addo; one reviewer explicitly flagged that fitting it in wastes time at each stop.
  • Restaurant lunch stops during the trip felt like wasted time to at least one traveller on such a compact schedule.
  • Group composition matters—one bad personality can sour the experience; another reviewer found theirs wonderful.
