Cairo → Alexandria 10 days Up to 18

About this trip

Ten days across Egypt that take you from the Giza pyramids to a Nubian village, the temples of Luxor and a stretch of Red Sea coast to unwind on. It's a well-paced mix of big-ticket ancient sites and quieter, more personal moments.

You'll travel between cities by overnight sleeper train and stay a night with a Nubian family in Aswan, alongside the standard hotel stops. History is central here, but there's also free time built in, in Cairo at the start and end, and on the beach in Hurghada.

Guided throughout, so the logistics and context are handled for you, with room left to explore Cairo's markets and old quarters on your own.

What you'll do

  • Stand before the Giza pyramids and the Sphinx
  • Explore pharaonic treasures at the Grand Egyptian Museum
  • Stay overnight in a Nubian village near Aswan with a home-cooked dinner
  • Sail the Nile on a felucca and visit Philae Temple
  • Walk the Valley of the Kings and Karnak Temple in Luxor
  • Relax by the Red Sea in Hurghada with time for diving or snorkelling
Good to know
  • Overnight sleeper train between Cairo and Aswan is part of the journey, not just a transfer
  • Pace eases in the second half, with beach time in Hurghada and free time in Cairo
  • Extras like quad biking, windsurfing and camel rides in Hurghada, and trips to Saqqara and Dashur in Cairo, are optional add-ons
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want expert-led ancient history with seamless logistics. Think twice if you dislike fast-paced itineraries and surprise shopping stops.

  • Guides are genuinely exceptional: knowledgeable, funny, attentive to health issues, and make history engaging.
  • Logistics flawless: smooth transfers, no waiting, comfortable vehicles, excellent hotels and meals throughout.
  • Itinerary is relentless and rushed; one reviewer was taken to an unwanted oil shop for three wasted hours without consent.
  • Only one hour for souvenir shopping across the entire trip; consider upgrades like extra nights in Aswan or Red Sea time.
