Sardinia's coastline is known for its turquoise water and pale sand, but this week is built around getting off it and into the landscape behind it. You base yourself at a family-run hotel in the Dorgali area and spend your days hiking, cycling and kayaking your way through the island's wilder corners.

The pace mixes serious effort with proper downtime: a hike through the Gorropu Gorge, a cycle through pinewoods to a beach, a paddle along the coast to coves you can't reach on foot. It suits people who want to earn their swim rather than just find a sunlounger.
