About this trip
Fifteen days that split neatly in two: ten days working through Sri Lanka's jungles, ancient sites and wildlife, then a switch of pace entirely as you board a traditional Dhoni to drift between Maldivian islands.
This is a trip built for families, with enough activity to keep things interesting on land and enough downtime on the water to actually rest. Expect early starts for safari and slower afternoons once you're island-hopping.
The two halves feel genuinely different — one grounded in culture and nature, the other in swimming, snorkelling and sun — which suits a family wanting variety over a single long holiday.
What you'll do
- Safari in Udawalawe National Park, looking out for wild elephants, buffalo, boar and crocodiles
- Two nights at a jungle lodge, with nature trails, sunset lake cruises and dinner under the stars
- Cooking demonstrations at the jungle lodge
- Tour Sri Lanka's ancient sites
- Live aboard a traditional Dhoni through the Maldives
- Snorkel and swim among the islands
- Two distinct halves — an active ten days in Sri Lanka followed by a slower Maldives cruise
- Suited to families comfortable with both wildlife excursions and simple boat-based living
- Moderate pace overall, with more activity on the Sri Lanka leg
Worth it if you want wildlife, culture and relaxation combined. Think twice if you need comfort over adventure—remote locations mean bumpy rides.
- Wildlife encounters are genuinely exceptional: wild elephants, sharks, dolphins, treehouses, and turtle releases stick with families.
- Guide quality transforms the trip—Sam and Dan (marine biologist) made activities engaging and educational for children.
- Remote accommodation involves bumpy jeep rides; tented riverside stays lack true tent roughness but require accepting rustic access.
- Itinerary is genuinely packed with rock climbs, safaris, sanctuaries, cooking lessons and snorkelling—little padding, high activity density.
