About this trip
Fifteen days across Turkey, from Istanbul's markets and mosques to the rock-carved valleys of Cappadocia and down to the Aegean coast. This is a full sweep of the country's history, covering Ottoman palaces, Greco-Roman ruins, and the WWI battlefields of Gallipoli.
It moves at a fair clip, with most days built around a specific site or city, so you cover a lot of ground in the two weeks. Expect bazaars, historic ruins, and a stretch of turquoise coastline to unwind on, alongside local food and drink along the way.
What you'll do
- Explore Cappadocia's rock-carved dwellings and fairy chimney landscapes
- Wander Istanbul's spice-scented bazaars
- Visit the Greco-Roman ruins at Ephesus on the Ionian coast
- Pay respects at Gallipoli's WWI memorials, including Lone Pine Cemetery
- Time to relax on Turkey's turquoise coast
- Fast-paced, with a new destination every few days
- Group tour with a mix of private and shared room options
- Moderate activity level, suited to those happy with a full itinerary
Worth it if you value deep historical knowledge and don't mind variable hotel quality. Think twice if you need dietary flexibility, reliable pre-trip comms, or comfort accommodation.
- Guide quality makes or breaks it—exceptional guides like Zafer, Jacob, and Alkan elevate the entire experience significantly.
- Hotel standards inconsistent; Merci Butik in Egirdir, Selcuk, and Ephesus properties described as poor, dated, or with bed bug issues.
- Dietary requirements poorly catered for; gluten-free traveller found no choices and inadequate starch or veg components.
- Long travel days and early starts necessary to cover vast terrain; tour starts Sunday when Istanbul mostly closed.
