Southern Morocco: The Sahara, The Coast & Marrakech

Start & end in Marrakesh 12 days Up to 14

About this trip

Twelve days covering a wide slice of southern Morocco, from desert to coast, with Marrakech thrown in for good measure. You'll trade one landscape for another every few days, so it suits someone who wants a proper overview rather than lingering in one place.

The desert section is the heart of it: a hike into the Sahara to an oasis camp, with a night under the dunes to catch both sunset and sunrise. From there you move through Marrakech and Agadir's markets, a tanjia cooking demonstration, and a swim at the Ouzoud waterfall, before heading to the coast for sandboarding, a Berber village visit, Essaouira's old town, and the ceramics of Safi.

It winds down on the beach at Oualidia, giving you a proper stretch of downtime after a trip that otherwise keeps moving.

What you'll do

  • Hike into the Sahara and camp overnight at a desert oasis, watching the sun set and rise over the dunes
  • Browse the markets of Marrakech and Agadir
  • Learn to make tanjia in a regional cooking demonstration
  • Swim and eat lunch at the Ouzoud waterfall
  • Sandboard the dunes and visit a Berber village
  • Walk the walled city of Essaouira and the ceramic market in Safi
Good to know
  • Fast-moving trip that shifts between desert, cities, and coast — better for variety-seekers than those wanting to settle in one spot
  • Ends with beach time at Oualidia, giving some proper rest after a busy itinerary
  • Fully guided group format throughout
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want authentic Morocco with standout guides and don't mind constant relocations. Think twice if you prefer fewer moves or want more active hiking.

  • Guides consistently exceptional—Mustapha, Jaouad, Khalid, Yacine all singled out for going above and beyond.
  • Heavy travel days between cities with nightly hotel changes; one reviewer noted lots of sitting time, minimal active movement.
  • Food quality praised throughout; genuine cultural immersion beyond typical tourist spots in larger cities.
  • Group chemistry appears strong; attracts like-minded travellers, which shaped the overall experience positively.
