About this trip
Ten days across Sri Lanka that moves from ancient cities to tea country to the coast, covering a lot of ground without ever feeling like a checklist. You get temples and ruins, a proper safari, hill country views, and a couple of days by the sea to finish.
It starts in Negombo and works through the cultural triangle — Dambulla, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya — before Kandy and the cool hills around Nuwara Eliya. From there it's Yala National Park for wildlife, then down to Galle and Bentota to unwind before flying out of Colombo.
Good for anyone who wants Sri Lanka's headline sights in one guided loop rather than piecing it together themselves.
What you'll do
- Visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage
- Climb Sigiriya rock fortress and explore Polonnaruwa's ruins
- See the Sri Maha Bodhi tree in Anuradhapura and the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy
- Drive through the tea plantations around Nuwara Eliya
- Safari in Yala National Park spotting leopards and elephants
- Wander Galle's Dutch Fort and relax in Bentota
- Fast-paced with a new base most nights, especially through the first half
- Easy-rated, so suits families and those wanting a guided rather than adventurous style
- Ends with beach time in Bentota before the drive back to Colombo
Worth it if you want well-organized cultural sites, reliable guides, and a logical route. Think twice if you need luxury hotels or prefer minimal travel days.
- Guides consistently knowledgeable and patient; explain history clearly without rushing or overwhelming.
- Sigiriya Rock, Yala safari, Anuradhapura, and Pinnawala elephants genuinely memorable; sightseeing well-planned.
- Hotels are standard, clean, functional—not comfortable for those wanting mid-range comfort or better.
- Long daily drives and Sigiriya climb are tiring; beach time at Bentota end helps recovery.
