Best of North India with Mumbai

Ten days across North India and Mumbai, taking in the country's biggest hitters alongside two cities that show very different sides of it. You move from Delhi's old streets to Rajasthan's forts, the Taj Mahal at Agra, the ghats of Varanasi, and finish in Mumbai.

It's a heritage and culture-heavy route with a spiritual thread running through it, from Delhi's mosques and monuments to a dawn boat ride during the Ganga Aarti in Varanasi. Mumbai adds a contrast at the end, with its own history out on Elephanta Island.

This is a private, partially guided tour, so you have your own vehicle and guides for the sightseeing days but some flexibility built in. It's pitched as easy-paced and works well for families.

• Explore Jaipur's Amer Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal and local bazaars, with an elephant ride
• Wander the 16th-century ruins of Fatehpur Sikri, including Buland Darwaza and Panch Mahal
• Take a boat out for the Ganga Aarti ceremony at Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi
• Visit the 5th-century Elephanta rock caves off Mumbai
