About this trip
Seven days moving through Uzbekistan's great Silk Road cities, with your own private tour setup rather than a fixed group. You'll spend most of the time in Tashkent, Bukhara, Samarkand and Shakhrisabz, taking in some of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Central Asia.
There's a change of pace built in too, with a day out hiking in the Western Tien-Shan mountains near Chimgan before heading back to Tashkent.
Dates are flexible, so you can fit the trip around your own schedule rather than a set departure.
What you'll do
- Explore the old city and sights of Tashkent
- Walk the historic centre of Bukhara
- See the monuments of Samarkand
- Visit Shakhrisabz, birthplace of Timur
- Hike in the Western Tien-Shan mountains around Chimgan
- Private tour, so it runs on your own schedule rather than with a fixed group
- Partially guided — some days are more independent than others
- Available in English or Russian
Worth it if you want hassle-free Silk Road history with genuinely knowledgeable guides and budget-friendly pricing. Think twice if you're fussy about hotel standards or prefer relaxed driving practices.
- Guides like Anvar, Akmal and Munisa are genuinely knowledgeable, speak fluent English, and staff actually bend itineraries without complaint.
- Uzbekistan itself is remarkably cheap for budget travellers, historically rich, and locals are notably kind and welcoming.
- Some hotels try charging unexpected extras on arrival; Gur Emir Palace in Tashkent flagged twice for this tactic.
- Drivers don't emphasise seatbelts; worth fastening yours regardless of local norms.
