About this trip
A guided run north from Edinburgh into the Highlands, taking in some of Scotland's best-known sights and stories along the way. You'll hear about the history behind the landscape as you go, not just look at it.
The day builds from the Kelpies and Stirling's castle views through to the wild scenery of Glen Coe, with its grim clan history, before settling into the fishing town of Oban for the night.
It's a sociable start to the trip, ending with a proper ceilidh — a good way to get to know the group before the rest of the tour unfolds.
What you'll do
- See the Kelpies sculptures on the way out of Edinburgh
- Pass Stirling with views of the Wallace Monument and Castle
- Stop at Doune Castle, familiar from Outlander and Game of Thrones
- Take in the dramatic scenery of Glen Coe and hear the story of the 1692 massacre
- Eat fresh seafood and dance at a traditional ceilidh in Oban
- Fully guided throughout, with a group leader sharing the history as you travel
- Easy pace — this is about sightseeing and stories, not physical activity
- Good for those who want company early on, given the ceilidh night in Oban
Worth it if you value a brilliant, personable guide who makes solo travellers feel welcome. Think twice if you need reliable accommodation—some hostels are genuinely poor, and the company's response to complaints is non-existent.
- Guide quality is consistently outstanding: Liz, Tiegan, Tom, Matt, Dave, Torva, Ryan, Karis all mentioned by name with genuine warmth.
- Hostel accommodation varies wildly; some are cheap, noisy, lack towels, have clogged toilets and sketchy vibes. Company ignores complaints entirely.
- Group demographic doesn't match marketing: advertised 18–45 but mostly over-60s, which affects group energy and dynamics.
- Iconic sights like Eilean Donan Castle and Old Man of Storr get brief photo stops only, not immersive visits or walks.
