About this trip
This is an overland crossing from the Atacama desert into Bolivia, done mostly by 4WD across a high volcanic plateau of salt flats, lagoons and geysers. It starts in San Pedro de Atacama, one of the driest places on earth, and finishes in La Paz after a rough but striking few days on the altiplano.
You'll travel in a shared 4WD with five other passengers, covering ground between hot springs, coloured lagoons and vast salt pans, with two nights in basic accommodation along the way, including one built almost entirely from salt.
It's billed as independent travel rather than a group tour, though the San Pedro to Uyuni leg is inevitably shared with other travellers in the same vehicle.
What you'll do
- Explore San Pedro de Atacama's village and surrounding desert
- Watch sunrise at the Tatio geysers
