About this trip
Seven days through Guatemala's best-known landscapes, from colonial streets to volcanic slopes to jungle ruins. It is a fast-moving route that packs in cities, mountains, caves and rainforest without lingering too long in one place.
You start in Antigua, wandering its colonial centre, before hiking up the active Pacaya volcano for views across the highlands. From there the route heads into greener country, taking in the pools of Semuc Champey and the underground rivers of Lanquín Caves, then finishes in the Mayan lowlands with the temples and jungle of Tikal.
Runs as a group tour or self-guided, and works for families as well as anyone wanting a first, broad look at Guatemala.

- The 11-hour bus from Flores to Guatemala City is brutal; flying costs £80 more but saves a full day.
