About this trip
Nine days across Northern Azerbaijan, moving from Baku out through the Caucasus foothills to Sheki and Qakh, with a private car and driver-guide throughout.
You start in Baku, then work through Shamakhi and the old craft village of Lahij, before heading up to Sheki for its distinct food and on to the greener landscapes around Qakh.
It's a steady, guided route through the country's history and regional differences, with accommodation on a shared twin or double basis.
What you'll do
- Explore Baku's old city and sights
- Visit Shamakhi
- Tour the historic craft village of Lahij
- Try Sheki's local cuisine
- See the greener nature around Qakh
- Private car and driver-guide provided throughout
- Accommodation is shared twin or double rooms, with extra beds available on request
- Partially guided, so expect some structured touring alongside free time
Worth it if you want a relaxed pace, excellent guide, and genuine local insight. Think twice if you need packed itineraries or expect bad weather contingencies.
- Guide Ferhad was knowledgeable, attentive, proper English speaker who concentrated on history and kept pace leisurely at 10am starts.
- Hotels excellent quality: Grand Hotel Baku spacious with gardens, Old Town Sheki beautifully decorated; food consistently good local cuisine, very cheap.
- Museum visits too rushed (1.5 hours at Haydar Aliyev still insufficient); Old Town Baku deserved longer exploration than allocated time.
- Heavy May rains forced cancellations of Mamirli Waterfall, Sumuq Fortress, Lahic village; limited contingency plan meant unstructured days resulted.
