Alaska Denali Expedition

Start & end in Anchorage 12 days Up to 12

About this trip

This is a 12-day camping expedition through Alaska's interior, built around wild, remote country rather than towns and sights. You're in a small group of 4 to 16, moving through backcountry and wilderness with a full guide.

Days are shaped around the landscape itself — glaciers, icebergs and terrain where grizzly sightings are a real possibility — with optional add-ons like sea kayaking, ice climbing, rafting and scenic flights if you want to go further.

It's a proper camping trip rather than a lodge-hopping tour: most nights are spent in bushcamps or established campgrounds, with one night in a hostel and one in a rustic lodge or camp.

What you'll do

  • View glaciers and icebergs up close and from a distance
  • Trek through Alaska's backcountry wilderness
  • Watch for grizzly bears in their natural habitat
  • Optional sea kayaking, ice climbing and rafting
  • Optional scenic flights over the terrain
Good to know
  • You need a reasonable level of fitness — getting in and out of tents, walking on uneven ground, and climbing in and out of the group bus are all part of daily life
  • Bring your own sleeping bag and sleeping pad; tents and camp/kitchen gear are provided
  • You're expected to help set up camp each night as part of the group effort
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're genuinely keen on wilderness camping and wildlife spotting with attentive guides. Think twice if you need creature comforts or prefer structured itineraries without optional activities.

  • Guides David, Tory, Nathalie and Scott are exceptionally knowledgeable, genuinely invested, and handle emergencies with real care.
  • You'll reach remote areas most Alaska tours skip—McLaren, McCarthy parks, Northern Lights spots—with wildlife encounters and scenery most people won't see.
  • Night temperatures near freezing and rough campgrounds mean you must pack proper layers and embrace basic camping; not a glamorous experience.
  • All activities are optional; book direct through their website to avoid third-party hassles and get clearer information upfront.
